World renowned scholar and friend of WOW, Professor Angela Y. Davis joins us live from San Francisco in this one-off, special event featuring musicians Cassie Kinoshi and Laura Mvula to celebrate the much anticipated re-publication of her blazing autobiography - nearly 50 years since it was first published.
From a childhood in Birmingham, Alabama, to a fugitive running from the FBI, Angela shares the toll - and the joy - of living a life as a radical thinker and abolitionist as well as the triumphs, humour and lifelong bonds forged along the way.
In an evening with Black feminist writer and researcher, Lola Olufemi, Angela will reflect on the power of sisterhood and political self-organising, and what a lifetime of resistance has taught her about the struggles we face today. There will also be performances from award-winning musicians Cassie Kinoshi and Laura Mvula, who will join live on stage to perform short sets in homage to Professor Davis.
Angela will join us on live link up from San Francisco, as we gather together on this special evening to celebrate the re-publication of her autobiography here in London. After the interview, there’ll be time for live audience questions with Angela.
Copies of Angela Davis- An Autobiography are available to purchase as an optional add-on for a discounted price of £17.00.
This event will be BSL Interpreted and live captioned.
