In this exclusive WOW event, writer, poet and activist, Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan launches her new book, Tangled in Terror: Uprooting Islamophobia, part of the Outspoken Series published by Pluto.
Islamophobia is everywhere. It is a narrative and history woven so deeply into our everyday lives that we don't even notice it. Behind the scenes it affects the most vulnerable, at the border and in prisons. Despite this, the conversation about Islamophobia is relegated to microaggressions and slurs.
Tangled in Terror shows that until the most marginalised Muslims are safe, nobody is safe.
Suhaiymah will bring this groundbreaking book to life for the first time, in conversation with poet and cultural producer Muneera Pilgrim, revealing and exploring the ways that Muslim women are specifically violated through Islamophobic focus on what they wear, the languages they speak, the ways they raise children and more; including state-led attempts to regulate and co-opt Muslim women's identities to surveil and discipline Muslims more broadly, damaging all of us in the process.
Muneera Pilgrim is an international Poet, Cultural Producer, Writer, Broadcaster, Community Researcher, Disrupter, and proud Neurodivergent. Her debut collection That Day She’ll Proclaim Her Chronicles was published in November with Burning Eye Books.
