We are so excited to be launching a new WOWsers programme this September - WOWsers: Creative Careers - Festival Makers, and registration is open now! The free eight week programme is open to anyone aged 13-18 years old in Lambeth, in partnership with local organisations Ashdon Jazz Academy and Brixton Youth Theatre.

WOWsers takes place around the world - they're WOW's specific projects for young people to discover more about gender equality, arts and activism. If you or anyone you know would be interested, here's everything you need to know...

WOWsers: Creative Careers - Festival Makers

Are you creative?

Want to learn how to make a festival that showcases the things you create?

Want to find out more about having a creative career?

Then get involved! This free eight week programme is all about lifting YOUR creative voice and learning how to use the arts to express issues of gender equality and social change. At The WOW Foundation, we create festivals globally and we’re keen to support and uplift you, the next generation of creatives.

The Brixton Youth Theatre sessions on Saturdays are open to young people aged 13-18 of all genders and will focus on Spoken Word. You will work with a professional spoken word artist to write your own pieces. Then, you’ll work with a professional producer to decide how to showcase your work. This might be performing it yourself, directing someone else to perform it, collaborating with others, creating voice overs or music or film. You will then design the showcase, plan it, manage the budget and invite an audience to see it.

The Ashdon Jazz Academy sessions on Thursdays are open to girls and non-binary young people aged 13-18 and will focus on Making and Craftivism (crafts and activism!). There will be weekly activities focussed on mindfulness, and we’ll eat something together in every session. Participants will work with artists and makers to create their own pieces, and work with a professional producer to decide how to showcase their work. They’ll design a showcase, plan it, manage the budget and decide how to share it with the world.

Both programmes will help you gain experience In:

  • Creating your own work

  • Leadership

  • Activism

  • Production

  • Budgeting & Marketing
