Three new family events at WOW London

16 Dec 2022

Blog Post

We are very excited to have three new family events on sale as part of WOW London 2023, bringing some brilliant children's authors and illustrators to the Southbank Centre:

Joyful, Joyful: Celebrating Black Voices
Saturday 11 March, 10.15am

In this fun and interactive event, Dapo Adeola – the illustrator who has inspired little girls all over the world to dress up as his character, Rocket, from the children’s book, Look Up! – will be joined by writers Hannah Lee and Maame Blue for a chance to enjoy readings and live drawing by this much-loved trio. Together they’re showing how important it is to ensure that the stories of all children are committed, loud and proud, to the page.

Ages 8-11

The Little Match Girl Strikes Back
Sunday 12 March, 10.15am

Emma Carroll and Lauren Child come to WOW with Little Match Girl - their reworking of the Hans Christian Andersen classic with a new feminist twist. Creators Carroll and Child share the story of how the little girl Birdie, who works hard to feed her family selling matches on the streets of Victorian London, realises she has the power to change her own fortune.

Ages 7+

Tolá Okogwu: Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun
Sunday 12 March, 10.15am

Join author Tolá Okogwu as she shares Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun in an interactive family event. She tells the tale of Onyeka, whose mother whisks her off to the Academy of the Sun, a school in Nigeria where Solari – children with superpowers – are trained. Follow Onyeka on her journey of meeting new friends at the Academy and find out what happens when their powers are put to the test.

Ages 8+

Tickets for all three events are on sale here.
