This Friday 11 October is the 12th International Day of the Girl Child and WOW will be celebrating in our usual style!
WOW Day of the Girl 2024 will bring together 150 inspiring women and non-binary people and 150 secondary school students on the lastminute.com London Eye for a morning of WOW Speed Mentoring so they can share their dreams, ambitions and challenges as they soar over London.
Past mentors have included: Adwoa Aboah, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Clara Amfo, Gillian Anderson, Laura Bates, Poorna Bell, Jo Brand, Sarah Brown, Dawn Butler MP, Gemma Cairney, Shami Chakrabarti, Lily Cole, Charlie Craggs, Stella Creasy MP, Elizabeth Day, Julia Gillard, Justine Greening MP, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Fatima Manji and Jessie Ware to name a few.
Each student will be matched with three different mentors for 15-minute mentoring sessions during two complete rotations of The London Eye. The mentors come from a wide range of professional backgrounds and industries, spanning the world of business, sport, politics, public life, the arts and more, which will enable students to have a snapshot into the ways in which women and non-binary people are paving the way for the future.
The young people will then take part in a series of creative career-building activities with WOW working in partnership with The National Theatre and WOW's Global Girls Champion Standard Chartered. There'll be confidence building, problem solving, creative-writing, dancing and a behind-the-scenes tour of The National Theatre.
Two weeks later, the WOW Asutralia team will be celebrating with their own WOW Australia Schools Day. This year they will continue to partner with QPAC to host over 200 high school students in a full day of workshops, performances, and Speed Mentoring on the Wheel of Brisbane with over 100 mentors from a range of diverse fields, highlighting opportunities and inspiring diverse ambitions. A special feature of the program will again be a panel conversation with inspiring young change-makers hosted Natasha Mitchell – WOW Big Ideas for broadcast by ABC Radio National.
