I recently read that a woman is the ‘shock absorber’ of society – absorbing the jolts at home, at work, in life. I was surprised by how accurately a technical component from my job can describe the daily reality of so many women today.
My name is Ioanna Georgantopoulou, and I was born in Athens in 1980. After graduating from high school in 1998, I moved to Patras to pursue my studies. I graduated from the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Patras in May 2004.
In July 2003, I began a six-month internship in the Building Facilities Department of the former AMEL (Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways). Since then, I have continued working in the same department, which later became the Facilities Structural Elements Department of STASY S.A., where I have worked continuously for the past 21 years as a maintenance technician.
I got married in September 2009, and in November 2014, our daughter was born. I love travelling. If I could make one wish, it would be to reach the farthest corner of the world, simply for the experience. However, I would never trade the place I call home for anything. I love my work and my everyday life, which revolves around the needs of my family.
