We called it Melissa – the bee – because a single bee is fragile, but a hive can change the world. In the hive, no woman stands alone.
My journey in Athens began over twenty years ago, and since then, my life’s work has been to ensure that no woman feels like a stranger in a new land. As a co-founder of the Melissa Network, I helped create a 'beehive' of solidarity for migrant and refugee women from over 45 countries. I believe that integration is not just about paperwork; it is about dignity. Through our culinary programs and psychosocial support, I use the universal language of food and shared stories to recreate the sense of 'home' that many have lost along their journey.
My commitment to my roots is equally deep. Serving as the Chairperson of NIDOE Greece (Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe), I act as a bridge between my Nigerian heritage and my Greek home. Whether I am mentoring a woman as she launches her first micro-business or advocating for the rights of the diaspora at a governmental level, my mission remains the same: to transform the challenges of migration into a platform for leadership. In The Hope Brigade, I stand as a testament to the fact that when we empower women and honour our collective history, we create a future where everyone has a place to belong.
