Raquel M. Frye

Lecturer

The Hope Brigade Baltimore, 2021

Women, and particularly women of color, are underrepresented in the field of finance and economics and really in all levels of the global financial system. This has wide social and political implications, as these voices and perspectives are missing in the development of government and fiscal policies across the world. For women globally, financial literacy and economic empowerment are critical to ensuring their economic security and that of their family. I am passionate about empowering women and girls through community outreach and training centred on financial education. It has also been my priority to mentor women interested in the economics profession. WOW's outreach and platforms centred on women are key to furthering the message that women are integral to society’s financial and economic success globally.

Raquel M. Frye

Raquel is passionate about narrowing the gender gap when it comes to financial literacy and believes that every girl should feel financially empowered. Professionally, Raquel holds several roles related to economics and finance. Her primary role is as a Lecturer in the Economics Department at Towson University teaching economics courses. In addition, she currently works in an advisory role, providing support in the development and execution of special projects for the Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) also at Towson University. On a consulting basis, she works with the Maryland Council on Economic Education. The Council is focused on providing teachers with the tools to provide effective economic and financial education. Raquel lives in Baltimore with her husband and two young kids (both of whom have already started an “investment” piggy bank). Raquel holds a M.A. in economics from Georgia State University and a B.S. in economics from Florida State University.
