Sahar Fetrat

Sahar Fetrat is a feminist activist from Afghanistan. She works as a researcher with the Women’s Rights Division at Human Rights Watch. Born in Afghanistan, she lived as a young refugee in Iran and Pakistan during the first Taliban regime. After returning to Kabul with her family in 2006, Sahar became involved in feminist activism, which she later incorporated into storytelling through documentary filmmaking and writing. She has previously worked with UNESCO's education unit in Afghanistan, advocating for women's literacy education. Sahar holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American University of Afghanistan, a Master’s degree in Critical Gender Studies from Central European University, and a second Master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development from King’s College London. In 2021, Sahar was recognized as one of the BBC 100 Women for her feminist activism.
