Tarang Chawla
(he/him)Tarang Chawla talks to men about the things men would rather not hear.
An Indian-born Australian writer, broadcaster and campaigner, he became an advocate after his younger sister Nikita was murdered by her partner in 2015. He co-founded Not One More Niki and has spent more than a decade challenging the entitlement, cultural excuses and institutional failures that allow men’s violence against women to continue.
A former lawyer, Tarang serves on the Australian Government’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Advisory Council and teaches at Monash University and the University of Melbourne. His work traces how boys and men are drawn into misogyny, from the online manosphere to the everyday silences of mates, fathers and institutions, and what it takes for them to choose differently. He argues for taking men’s pain seriously without ever letting it eclipse women’s safety and freedom.
He wrote and hosted the award-winning podcast There’s No Place Like Home, centring survivors’ experiences of domestic abuse, and his commentary has featured on the BBC, CNN and across all Australian media outlets.
With rigour, candour and humour, Tarang asks what society excuses in men, and what it asks women to endure.
