Creating safe and sustainable jobs is critical to ending the cycle of vulnerability at the root of the global crisis of poverty. By creating life-giving jobs for the most vulnerable we can make cracks in the cycle and offer freedom and a future instead of exploitation and abuse.
Threads of Hope is a non profit sewing business providing vocational training and employment to victims/survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The provision of safe and dignified jobs is crucial to prevent people from being re-trafficked or forced back into prostitution. Recent research shows that only 1% of those who try to leave prostitution manage to do so permanently. 80% of those going back claim it was because they could not find a suitable job.
Threads of Hope works with a holistic approach, meaning that we consider the needs of the whole person. As part of this our training program is individually based and each person learns at their own pace to avoid unnecessary stress. All our staff has had trauma training, and we work very closely with a professional therapist, who holds weekly group sessions with the employees and trainees.
Professionalism and high quality are important aspects in our work. We only use natural materials, most of it locally sourced, and we put much effort into keeping a high standard of the craftsmanship.
